Abstract

Context
Since its inception, Internet meant a significant area of distribution of content on health issues, something that until then was restricted to publications and media for health professionals.
In this context, the emergence of Web 2.0 opens a new way of communication with Internet users by allowing interactivity and the possibility of exchange documents, experiences, etc. which is specially important in the field of patient safety.
There are currently 500 million of potential users on Facebook. This is the most important reason to choose it as a new channel of communication.

Objectives
From its beginnings, social web has become a powerful tool to disseminate health content, to create communication channels between health professionals and citizens, and to bring health institutions closer to its users.

In this context Patient Safety Observatory, an agency of the Regional Ministry of Health, was created in order to make available to all stakeholders the knowledge generated by its professional staff (good practice, improvement actions, incident reporting, etc.) and from other organizations and systems; a knowledge available to both health professionals and users, and intended to help giving increasingly safer care.

Methodology
To reach a higher audience, in September 2009 a Facebook page was set up to allow its users to be aware of contents on safety and health quality broadcasted by the Observatory, as well as to allow them to be the main transmitters of information with their own contacts.

With the same scope was set up a channel on Youtube on `Safe Practices', to show different safe practices in health care.

Results
From its beginnings in September 2009, Andalusian Patient Safety Observatory Facebook page has 564 followers and publish around 5 news a week.

Videos on Youtube channel on `Safe Practices' recorded 22.658 views (10.680 views for the most watched video).

Conclusions
Web 2.0 tools have increasingly greater acceptance among the public, so that dissemination of health content by these channels is an important step forward in professionals and citizens information, and in interaction between them.
Its future development and expansion will be keys building a citizenry with a clearer and more rigorous health information.
