Abstract

To mark the World Day of AIDS, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the virus, the biopharmaceutical company Gilead Sciences with WakeApp Health, have developed an application for tablets that will open the doors to anyone who cares about the virus and its evolution. This hopes to provide answers to the general population and those affected by the disease and their families about the syndrome that was the great taboo of the twentieth century and in its three decades of existence, has claimed millions of lives.
This application seeks to answer the question Where does AIDS come from? And, more importantly, where does it go? It seems that after three decades, we have gotten to know some of this phenomenon, since it is still considered the great unknown.
With this didactic iPad application to be submitted in April 2012, Gilead hopes to change the situation by providing a scientific review, social and cultural history of AIDS like never before had told us. Care through texts, videos, interactive graphics and a unique navigation experience, you will find, almost without realizing it, the incredible evolution of the virus jumping from chimpanzee to humans.
It presents a projection of where the keys can go in the future, one of the issues of most concern to patients, professionals and families. This large number of episodes showing major pathogen leading to a pandemic.
According to the latest UNAIDS report there are 34 million people living with HIV worldwide. In addition, each year about 3,500 new diagnosed cases in our country. It's time to know what happens and how it can prevent new infections as well as deepen the adventure of discovery of treatments that have helped expand the life expectancy of HIV-positive, never in the history of medicine scientific milestone was reached in such a short space of time. It is time to normalize the disease and end the stigma. No doubt this application is the first step.
